EE Live - Supercharging Engagement While Saving Over 300 Tonnes of CO2

Business Transformation/Employee Engagement/Live Experience

Challenge

EE used to invite thousands of colleagues to visit the NEC for an annual event - celebrating the business, the people and looking forward to the next 12 months. But it had two main problems - it was very unfair to the rest of the colleagues who couldn’t attend (4,000 at the NEC - out of 20,000 in total), and it wasn’t a great look for EE’s sustainability credentials to bring 4,000 people to a venue via plane, train and automobile. So they asked us how they could give every colleague the same awesome experience, and reduce their impact on the planet while they were at it.

Solution

I like to use the phrase “What would Steve Jobs do?” - and in this case, it led to an Apple Event style TV show with huge ambition. Working closely with our production design team, I wanted to bring the world of EE to life in a highly stylised way - creating sets that represented a high street, store and contact centre.

We built an enormous LED wall at the end of that high street filled with stunning graphics that helped our presenters tell their story in a way that felt stylish, innovative and playful. With lots of powerful and funny VTs and animated sequences playing throughout the show, this project changed the game for what EE thought was achievable for this annual colleague engagement programme.

Impact

The multi award-winning EE Live (Including Micebook’s Best Internal Communications Event) had a HUGE impact on audiences.

"I understand the importance of taking ‘Personal’ to the next level" 4.7 out of 5

"I want to be part of the future of New EE" 4.6 out of 5

"I'm proud of my colleagues and their achievements" 4.7 out of 5

“I’m proud to be part of New EE” 4.5 out of 5

And with under 100 people travelling for filming, rather than 3,900 journeys to the NEC, we saved 300 - 350 tonnes of CO2!
